Claudina Canario, 99, of New York City, passed away on Monday, May 27, 2024, surrounded by loving family while visiting in Westborough.
She is survived by her loving family, including two sons, Bienbenido Nivar and Nestor Nivar; three daughters, Irma Yolanda Nivar, Altagracia Nivar Mejia, and Miguelina Sofia Nivar Diaz; twenty grandchildren, forty-two great grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a daughter, Deogracia Nivar Chowdhury; and was the last surviving of thirteen children born to Jose Lucia Canario and Maria Francisca Medina. She was born in the Dominican Republic and lived there for many years, before moving to New York City in 1969.
Claudina will always be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great-great grandmother and aunt; she loved to be surrounded by the love of family. She will also be remembered as a classy lady with impeccable style and sense of fashion. She enjoyed doll making, Mexican wrestling, and caring for her family. She will be remembered for her welcoming smile and loving embrace.
Calling Hours will be Thursday, May 30, from 4 p.m. to 8 pm in MERCADANE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation Street, Worcester. Her Funeral Mass will be on Friday, May 31, at 10:30 a.m. in The Cathedral of Saint Paul, 15 Chatham Street, Worcester. Interment will follow at Saint John’s Cemetery.
