Constance “Connie” L. (Uccello) Sbrogna, 99, formerly of Maury Lane in Shrewsbury, passed away on Saturday, October 19, 2024 in the Oakdale Rehabilitation and Nursing Center. Her husband of sixty years, Joseph R. Sbrogna, predeceased her in April 2007. She is also reunited with her son, Samuel L. Sbrogna, who predeceased her in June 2009.
Connie is survived by a son, Joseph R. Sbrogna, Jr. and his wife Linda of Worcester; a sister, Helen Russo of Centerville, four grandchildren, Lisa Sbrogna, Sarah Frizzi (Joe), Julie Yaskoski (Christopher), and Marybeth Casey (Richard); four great grandchildren, Calista, Samantha, Gabriella, and Emma; her daughter in law, Maureen Sbrogna and her husband Michael Bane of Worcester; nieces and nephews. Connie was born in Worcester, daughter of the late Samuel and Minnie (Fiore) Uccello and graduated from Girl’s Trade.
Connie worked at Worcester State Hospital for twenty-nine years as a medical records secretary, retiring in 1987. She was also a talented dress maker and seamstress; she also did crewel and knitting. She was a member of Saint Anne’s Church, and enjoyed playing cards, a good bowl of ice cream, although there’s never a bad bowl of ice cream. She was a coupon shopper and loved to spend hours at the Dollar Store looking for bargains, traveling with her daughter in law to visit local artists, cooking, going to Cape Cod, and loved her cat Libby.
She was a woman that was always impeccably dressed, whether staying at home or going out someplace special with family; she remained a fashion plate even while in the nursing center, thanks to her great care givers.
Connie’s greatest joy came from her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Calling Hours for Connie will be on Friday, October 25, from 9 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. in MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation Street, Worcester, followed by a procession departing at 10:45 a.m. enroute to an 11 a.m. Funeral Mass in Saint Anne’s Church, 120 Boston Turnpike Road (route 9 east), Shrewsbury. Interment will follow at Saint John’s Cemetery, Worcester.
Her family would like to thank the wonderful caregivers at Oakdale Rehabilitation, and Beaumont Worcester, where she resided previously, for their loving care and compassion. A special thank you also to the kind people from JHC Hospice for their care in allowing her to make a peaceful transition.
