Constance (Ricci) Montague

Constance M. “Connie” (Ricci) Montague, two days prior to her 94th birthday, passed away unexpectedly in her sleep at home, Thursday, December 5th, 2019.

Connie was born in Boston, on December 7, 1925, one of five children of Ralph and Antoinette Ricci. Connie and her family then moved to Worcester, where she was raised and educated.  In 1948, she married Leon E. Montague and together began a 61-year life of love and family.   In 1966, they settled with their sons in the North Lake Ave neighborhood of Worcester where they have resided ever since.   Gifted in knitting, crochet and sewing, Connie worked for and later managed the former Yarn Outlet in Shrewsbury, giving tips, thoughts and knowledge to customers.  She also co-owned and operated with her husband Leon and sons, L.E. Montague & Sons bait shop on North Lake Ave.   

Connie’s husband Leon passed away in 2009.  She leaves behind, her two sons, Paul P. Montague and his wife Maureen of North Grafton, Richard J. Montague and his wife Mara of Webster; two beloved grandchildren, Kimberly D. Carver  and her husband Jared of S. Hadley and Benjamin J. Montague on duty with the U.S. Navy in Norfolk VA; a great granddaughter Natalie; Many nieces, nephews and extended family.  Besides her husband and parents, a son, Raymond , one brother and three sisters all predeceased her.

Connie was a member of St Anne’s Church.  Active to the end, Connie attended and volunteered twice weekly at The Worcester Senior Center and as a member of its RSVP group.   She also helped and taught crafts while there.   At one time, Connie was a volunteer for the Fallon Clinic, and creating onesie’s and baby blankets for St Vincent’s and Memorial Hospitals. Connie truly believed that faith, family and friends were the most important parts of her life and had room in her heart for everyone she met.  She was very generous with her love, time and resources, and helped anyone she could.   She also enjoyed the occasional trips to the casinos.

Friends and relatives are invited to a period of calling hours Monday, December 9th from 9 to 1015 am in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St before departing in procession to St Anne’s Church, 170 Boston Turnpike Rd Shrewsbury where her funeral mass will be celebrated at 11:00 am.  Burial will follow in Worcester County Memorial Park in Paxton.  In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Worcester Senior Center, 128 Providence St 01604.
