It is with profound sadness that I announce the passing of my dear sister, Cynthia A. Pedone, into eternal life. Cynthia passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 7, 2024, at Knollwood Nursing Home, Worcester, surrounded by family and friends, following a courageous battle with cancer. She was 67 years old. Cynthia left us just a week after our brother, Michael, passed. She fought this disease valiantly and bravely for several years, never complaining and always grateful for another day of life and the opportunity to be with her family and friends.
Cynthia was born in Worcester on November 11, 1956, the daughter of Julio M. and Barbara A. (Potter) Pedone. She leaves behind her brother, Reverend Monsignor F. Stephen Pedone, Pastor of Our Lady of Mount Carmel and Our Lady of Loreto Parish in Worcester, as well as many cousins and friends.
A graduate of Burncoat High School, Class of 1974, Cynthia worked diligently throughout her life and retired in 2014 after 20 years of dedicated service with the Sheriff’s Department in West Boylston, where she served as a correctional officer and deputy sheriff—a job she truly loved.
Cynthia was a bright, shining star, who had many friends she cherished and loved and who loved her and cherished her. Her caring nature drew people to her, and she had a unique way of making everyone feel special, often referring to others affectionately as "honey," even the clerk at the coffee shop.
She loved to travel and explored many destinations, including Italy, England, Ireland, and Egypt, where she proudly posed for a photo atop a camel. However, her favorite places were Cape Cod and Florida, where she spent winters at the family home in Naples.
Cynthia was full of life and energy, exuberant and effervescent, with a strong will and a unique language all her own—one that, thankfully, all her friends understood. She loved to laugh, thoroughly enjoyed life, and lived it to the fullest. Cynthia was an avid fan of the New England Patriots and the Boston Red Sox, and she especially relished the Red Sox's victory over the Yankees in the 2018 World Series. We will deeply miss her laughter and her stories.
Her brother wishes to thank her dear friends Lynn Cronin, Wendy Lancey, Terri Moretti, Brian Foley, Cathy Carelli, Cathy Young, and cousin Cathy Daly for always being there for Cynthia throughout her life, and especially during her final days. Heartfelt thanks also go out to the nurses and medical staff at the UMass Medical Oncology Department, University Campus, particularly Dr. Shayam A. Patel, whom she held in high regard for his kindness and care.
Memorial donations can be made in Cynthia’s name to: University of Massachusetts Chan Medical School, Office of Advancement, 333 South Street, Shrewsbury, Massachusetts 01545; www.umassmed.edu/give.
Cynthia will be buried alongside her brother Michael in a private service.
