Darlene A. Bakerlis, 61, of Shrewsbury, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 16, 2021, surrounded by her family after a long battle with cancer.
Darlene is survived by her three children, Matthew J. Laskes and his wife Kristie of Auburn, Andrew W. Downey and his wife Jeniffer of Gardner, and Christine A. Green and her husband Shawn of Shrewsbury; five grandchildren, Riley, Aleesia, Ayden, Lucas, and Mackenzie; a sister, Lisa J. Swenson of Lakeville; a brother, Steven D. Hebden of Cape Cod; a niece and a nephew, along with many other extended family and close friends. Darlene was born in Worcester, daughter of the late, Anna (Cole) Noons and William Bakerlis.
She grew up in Worcester and graduated from Burncoat Senior High School class of 1977. Darlene served in many positions through the years as a receptionist and administrative assistant for several companies. She loved serving people, even those she just met.
While Darlene was going through treatment, she never missed a moment to give a listening ear, a bit of encouragement, or motivation to others at Dana Farber who were going through treatment as well. Darlene had a servant’s heart with volunteering her time for many causes to help people in need. Darlene was happiest with helping and being around her family, most of all her grandchildren.
Family and friends are welcome to gather with Darlene’s family for Calling Hours on Thursday, May 20, from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. in MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation Street, Worcester. Funeral Services and Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to Dana Farber Cancer Institute, by visiting www.dana-farber.org and then selecting “give now”.
