Demetrio Brindisi, Sr., 67 of Worcester, devoted family man passed away suddenly Sunday, April 29th 2018 after being stricken ill at home. Demetrio was born January 6, 1951, in Acri, province of Cosenza Italy, the son of Natale and Nunuziata (Servidio) Brindisi. At the age of seven, Demetrio and his family immigrated to the United States and settled in Worcester. In 1978, Demetrio married Elvira DeMarco and begun to raise their family, with Italian traditions, love, family and dedication. Demetrio worked more than 38 years for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, Department of Mental Health at Worcester State Hospital before retiring. After retirement, Demetrio worked part time at City View School. Demetrio is survived by his devoted wife of 40 years, Elvira (DeMarco) Brindisi; his two children, Paula N. Brindisi of Worcester Demetrio Brindisi, Jr. and his wife Eileen of Beaverton, Oregon; the apple of his eye, his granddaughter Olivia; two sisters, Dominica Favors and her husband James in Hawaii and Rosina Brindisi of Worcester; Many nieces, nephews, and extended family members both here in the US and in Italy. A sister, Francesca Silvestris pre deceased him. Demetrio lived a simple life, deep in Italian heritage and tradition. He enjoyed the New England Patriots, traveling with Elvira to Italy to see family, the occasional trips to Boston’s North End and Rhode Island’s Federal Hill. He most importantly enjoyed the holidays, playing with his granddaughter Olivia and just being a family man. A period of calling hours will be held Thursday, May 3rd from 9:00 am to 10:30 am in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St followed by a procession to Our Lady of Loreto Church, 37 Massasoit Rd where his celebration of life mass will be held at 11:00 am. Burial will follow ion St John’s Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial remembrances can be made to Our Lady of Loreto, 37 Massasoit Rd. 01608.
