SHREWSBURY – Dominic F. Pignataro, 85, of Shrewsbury, passed away peacefully Wednesday, January 8, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. Dominic joins in heaven his wife of 60 yrs., Barbara J. (Zalimas) Pignataro who passed away in 2021 as well as his daughter, Lisamarie Esper in 2015.

Dominic is survived by two devoted children, Vincent Pignataro and his partner Dr. Shari Morana of Shrewsbury; Barbara Chionchio and her husband, Anthony of Worcester; three sisters, Marie Bergin and husband David of Westboro; Esther Edmond and husband Richard of Shrewsbury; and Elaine Pignataro of Worcester. 

“Grampie” will be greatly missed by his 5 grandchildren: Stephanie Manzi and her husband, Brian; Britney Esper and her partner, Ronald Caldwell Jr; Justin DeGaetano and his partner, Lindsey Thunberg; Zachary DeGaetano and his wife, Bridget; and Michael DeGaetano, Jr. and his partner, Jordon Peck; his 6 great-grandchildren: Ariana, Mila, Ella, Anthony, Trey, and Evie; and many nieces and nephews, extended family and friends.

Dominic was born and raised in Worcester the son of the late Vincent and Rachel (DiPasquale) Pignataro, graduated from Classical High School in 1957 and was a Sergeant in the Massachusetts Army National Guard, Medical Company. He and Barbara moved to Shrewsbury in 1970 to raise their family in the new home they built together.

 After graduating from Worcester Industrial Technical Institute with a degree in Magnetic Engineering, Dominic started his 40 yr. career at O.S. Walker Co. Worcester, as a draftsman, then promoted in 1966 to assistant Chief Engineer, later being relied on to run the product division as manager before retiring after 40 years notably holding several international patents.

His greatest achievements of all were having his own family, staying close to his siblings, brothers-in-law, and extended family, but most especially his close relationship with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

 Dominic’s family would like to thank both UMass Memorial Medical Center, Worcester, and Whittier Rehabilitation Hospital, Westboro, for their outstanding care

 Dominic’s funeral will be held, Tuesday, January 21st, from the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St. Worcester, with a Mass of Christian burial at 11:00 am in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel & Our Lady of Loreto Parish, 37 Massasoit Rd. Worcester. Burial with military honors will follow in Mountain View Cemetery, Shrewsbury. Family and friends may pay their respects from Monday, January 20th from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to one of the following: Parkinson.org, Kidney.org, NationalMSSociety.org, or DanaFarber.jimmyfund.org
