Dorothy A. (Mangano) Evangeline, 88, of Worcester passed away unexpectedly in her sleep Monday, December 16th, 2019 at home. Dorothy is survived by two children and their spouses; Gail A. and her husband Frederick A. Radcliffe Jr. of West Boylston and Charles W. Evangeline Jr. and his wife Doreen D. of Sutton; four grandchildren, Matthew Radcliffe, David Radcliffe and his wife Heather, Nicholas and Katherine Evangeline; two great-grandchildren Fiona and Charles Radcliffe and a sister Eleanor Falcone.
She was pre-deceased by her husband Charles W. Evangeline in 2012, five brothers, Samuel, Anthony, William, Carl and Albert Mangano and five sisters Nancy Doucimo, Maria Mangano, Fanny Picard, Mary Mangano and Rose Kubic.
Dorothy was born on March 3, 1931 in Worcester, Massachusetts, a daughter of Italian immigrants Angelo and Grace (Gaccione) Mangano. She married her soulmate in 1953 and for the next 59 years, showed us all the meaning of a truly great marriage filled with pure love, abundant laughter, and a healthy dose of storytelling.
Dorothy’s table was the center of our family’s universe. She and Papu had an open door policy where all were welcomed to gather and connect in good times and in bad. Everyone left feeling better and a lot less hungry. Children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren will remember her--our Mom, our Nana, our Super Nana--her love, her food, and her words of wisdom for years to come.
Friends and relatives are invited to calling hours Thursday, December 19th from 4 to 7 pm in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St. Her funeral will be held Friday, December 20th from the funeral home with a procession to Our Lady of Loreto church, 37 Massasoit Rd. where her funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:00 am. Burial next to her husband will follow in Hope Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial remembrances in her name can be made to the St John’s Food Pantry, 40 Temple St. Worcester 01604.
