Dorothy A. (Ferraro) Laganelli, 88, a longtime resident of the Quinsigamond Village passed away Tuesday, August 27th, 2024, in her home surrounded by the family she cherished. Dorothy notably joins in heaven the “Love of her Life,” Vito, who passed away almost 7 years to the day on August 24, 2017.
Born and raised in Worcester, Dorothy was one of three daughters of James and Virginia (Serra) Ferraro. She graduated from Commerce High School, married Vito J. Laganelli and began a 57 year marriage of dedication to each other, raising their family until Vito left her side. Dorothy worked for the Big D supermarket for many years before retiring.
She is survived by her two devoted children, Anthony Laganelli, his wife Brenda, and Linda Fusaro all of Worcester; four grandchildren, Michael Fusaro and his wife, Lauren, Brandon Fusaro, Derek and Jillian Laganelli; two great grandchildren, Callie and Caiden; a sister, Carol Wojcik in Minnesota; her son-in-law, Michael Fusaro; many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. In addition to her parents and husband, Dorothy joins in heaven her sister, Virginia Rizzuto.
Dorothy was a member of North American Martyrs Church. She was a loving wife and devoted Italian mother and grandmother, who dedicated her life to her family and passed her Italian heritage along to them. In her home, her doors were always open to neighborhood friends and friends of her children. Nobody who entered her house ever left Hungry. She loved to bake, read, do crossword puzzles and spend summers with family in Old Orchard Beach. These were her happiest times.
Dorothy’s funeral will be held Friday, August 30th from the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St. leaving in procession at 9:30 am to North American Martyrs church, 8 Wyoma Ave. Auburn, MA, where her celebration of life Mass will be held at 10:00 am. Burial will follow in St John Cemetery. Calling hours for Dorothy will be held Thursday, August 29th from 5 to 7 pm in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorial remembrances in her name can be made to the VNA Hospice, 120 Thomas Street, Worcester, MA
