Dorothy M. Young

Dorothy M. (Pitts) Young, 89, of Worcester, was called home on Wednesday, October 5, 2022.  She is reunited with her beloved husband, Herbert W. Young, who predeceased her in 2013.

Dorothy was born in Gainesville, Florida to her parents Willie and Sarah Pitts; who she deeply loved.  She attended Lincoln High School (in Gainesville, Florida) and Quinsigamond Community College, before earning a bachelor’s degree and master’s degree in Human Services from Southern New Hampshire University. She was distinguished for her selfless devotion during her career in Human Services, leaving lasting impressions on everyone she met. 

Dorothy was a member of Grace Christian Center of Worcester.  She attended Sarah Care. She enjoyed singing and blessed those around her when she broke out in melody. She loved to cook and bake, sharing her expertise through demonstration. She had the uncanny ability to draw people in from all walks of life through her magnetic personality. Dorothy was loving, funny, an amazing story-teller, and unapologetically comfortable in her skin. She was affectionately called "Dot", "Dotty-Mae", "Mother", "Auntie", "Grammy", Gram-Gram", "Friend" and created enduring memories for all those who loved her. 

Dorothy is survived by her two sons, Raymond Davis of Worcester, and Patrick Davis of Springfield; her two daughters, Veronica Tate, with whom she lived and Clytheia Bushell of Tampa, FL; her daughter-in-law and wife of Raymond, Debra Davis; her sister, Lily Davis of Florida; fifteen grandchildren; fifteen great grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren along with many nieces, nephews and friends. She was predeceased by her daughter, Harriette L. Cocroft; her two brothers and three sisters, Vandoil Pitts, Pedro Velasquez, Eunice Royal, Brunell Dewberry, and Maybelle Williams.

Calling Hours for Dorothy will be on Friday, October 14, from 9 a.m. until her Funeral Services begins at 11 a.m. at Grace Christian Centre, 126 Elm Street (intersection of Elm and Russell Street at Elm Park) Worcester. Interment will follow at Hope Cemetery, Worcester.
