Edith “Edie” (Palumbo) Lucente, 92, a lifelong Worcester resident passed away peacefully Thursday, January 21st, 2021 after a brief period of declining health.
Edith was born in Worcester, the daughter of Italian immigrants, John, and Antoinette (Izzo) Palumbo. Raised and educated here, Edith married in her beloved Our Lady of Mt Carmel Church, the “Love of her Life”, soulmate and partner for the next 59 years, Marco E. Lucente. They lived devoted to each other until Marco passed away in 2008. Edie was devoted to her family, and their business. She was a special person with a huge heart and bright smile who saw the good in each person. She was a wonderful cook and mother who put her family before herself, she never complained, supported Marco, and devoted her life to her children and grandchildren. She was the matriarch of the family.
Edie is survived by her three devoted children, Mark V. Lucente and his wife Marcia of Shrewsbury, Michael A. Lucente and his wife Deb of Cherry Valley, and Marie E. Ushinski with whom she lived; seven grandchildren, Melissa Johnson and her husband Christopher, Mallory Caruso and her husband Peter, Michelle England and her husband Joshua, John Ushinski and his wife Catherine, Nicholas Ushinski, Christina and Marco Lucente; six great- grandchildren, Mackenzie, Jack, Sophia, River, Summer and Miles; Many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. The last of nine children, Edie was predeceased by brothers, Joseph, John, Henry and Robert Palumbo, and sisters, Anna Dattis, Mary Grimaldi, Rose Bello, and Grace Palumbo.
She was a lifelong member of Our Lady of Mt Carmel Parish, enjoyed cooking, taking care of her home, winters in Florida, the beach, occasional trip to the casino or racetrack, the Holidays, special occasions, or family dinners when her family could be all around her.
Out of an abundance of caution and for the safety of all, funeral services and burial next to Marco in St Johns Cemetery will be private.
