Edward F. Bonczyk, 90, of Worcester, a retired Worcester Police Captain, passed away on Saturday, June 8, 2019, at the Oasis at Dodge Park, with his loving family at his bedside.
Ed is survived by his loving wife, Patricia M. (Fortin) Bonczyk, with whom he would have celebrated sixty-three years of marriage this coming August. He is also survived by three sons, Scott K. Bonczyk, Stephan E. Bonczyk and his wife Audrey, and Paul F. Bonczyk and his wife Aileen, all of Worcester; a daughter, Maria H. Corrigan and her husband Brian of Holden; a brother, Frank Bonczyk and his wife Dorothy “Ditty” of Worcester; seven grandchildren, James, Paul, Amanda, Rebecca, Steffany, Austin, and Nicholas; four great grandchildren, Brooklyn, London, Joella, and Philip; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by five siblings, Sally Blake, Joseph, Thaddeus “Ted”, Romuald “Pete”, and Henry “Hank” Bonczyk. Ed was born in Worcester, son of the late, Karol and Frances (Passi) Bonczyk, and has lived here all his life. He was a graduate of North High School and the former Central New England College. He served his nation proudly in the United States Army, during the Korean Conflict.
Ed was a Police Officer for the City of Worcester for over thirty years, retiring as a Police Captain in 1998. During his retirement he and Patricia enjoyed many years of travel, having visited twenty-six countries all over the world. He enjoyed camping, bowling, and spending time with his family. He will be remembered for always having a project going, around the house as he loved his home and would constantly find something to tinker with.
His family would like to thank the staff at The Oasis, for the wonderful care they gave to Ed; and to Trinity Hospice for making Ed comfortable with their loving care.
Calling Hours for Ed will be on Wednesday, June 12, from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. in MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation Street, Worcester. His Funeral will be on Thursday, June 13, from the funeral home, departing at 10:30 a.m., in procession, for an 11 a.m. Funeral Mass at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, 1290 Grafton Street, Worcester.
