Eileen E. Kane, 75, of Worcester passed away on Friday, January 28th, 2022, at the UMass Memorial Medical Center after a long illness.
She was born and raised in Worcester, attended Blessed Sacrament Elementary School and graduated from Saint Stephen's High School in 1965. It was always in her heart to devote her life to God through a religious community and in 1966 she entered the convent of the Sisters of Saint Joseph in Springfield, MA, where she spent time in silent contemplation and reflection and her faith grew. After leaving the convent Eileen continued her life of service visiting the sick, teaching religious education classes at both Blessed Sacrament Church and Saint Paul's Cathedral. She participated in Bible study classes, was a CYC leader, a church lector, Eucharistic minister, and a sacristan.
Eileen returned to academic studies and earned a B.A. degree in Psychology from Worcester State University where she was active in both the Youth and Campus Ministries. She worked as a Unit Coordinator at St. Vincent Hospital from 1971 to 1987 and from 1987 until her retirement in 2014 she worked as a Unit Clerk at UMass Memorial Medical Center. She also worked part time at Webster Square Medical Center from 1987 until 1994.
Eileen was a loving sister to six surviving siblings; Kathleen McGlew of Edinburgh, Scotland, wife of the late Thomas McGlew, Nancy Kane of Truro, wife of James Bisceglia, Sheila Kane of Yarmouth Port, wife of James Garb, Noreen Fish of Worcester, Colleen Kane-Dacri of San Francisco, CA, wife of James Dacri, and Michael S. Kane of Memphis, TN, husband of Mary Kane. She was an adoring Aunt to fourteen nieces and nephews and twelve great nieces and nephews. Eileen was predeceased by her infant sibling Geraldine and her parents Michael R. Kane and Rita M. Kane of Worcester. In addition to her family and many friends she leaves her dear friends Dele and Kendra and their two children Tobi and Toufa who called her Gramma E. and were part of her extended family.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, February 7, at 11 a.m. in Blessed Sacrament Church, 555 Pleasant Street, Worcester. Interment will be private.
Due to Covid 19 and a Worcester City mandate, face masks are required in church.
The Mass will be “live streamed” and may be viewed by visiting www.mercadantefuneral.com, then select “live services” from the menu and scroll to “service one”. Stream will start automatically when the Mass begins.
