Elaine A. (Hurley) Cooney-Triola, of Worcester, passed away on Friday, July 2, 2021, in the comfort of her own home, surrounded by loving family.
Elaine is survived by her loving husband, Lucian “Lou” Triola, with whom she has shared thirty-three years of love and devotion; a son, John D. Cooney of Boylston; a daughter, Debra J. Tully of Worcester; a daughter in law, Susan M. Cooney of Sterling; a sister-in-law, Gloria A. Triola of Shrewsbury; a brother-in-law, Ernie Bishop of Shrewsbury; seven grandchildren, Rachel, Danielle, Benjamin, Sherissa, Jeffrey, Emma, and Riley; four great grandchildren, Lexi, Rylee, Brayson, and Lydia-Grace; nieces and nephews. She has had to bear the heartache of a parent’s worst nightmare, with the death of her son, James B. Cooney, III in October 2017. She was also predeceased by two sisters, Cathy Bishop and Eileen Zelenak; and by her beloved dog, Rocky. Elaine was born in Worcester, daughter of the late, David and Gladys (Bourbeau) Hurley and has lived in Worcester all her life.
Elaine worked as a respiratory therapist for many years, retiring earlier this year from Regional Homecare. She had previously worked at the Memorial Hospital Neo-Natal Unit, and while working at Worcester County Hospital, she was instrumental in the development of the first outpatient ventilator program in Massachusetts.
Elaine loved to be with her family and enjoyed boating and camping with them at their home in New Hampshire. She also enjoyed having a good Manhattan or glass of wine with her sister-in-law during holiday gatherings or any day that ends in “y”.
Her family would like to thank the wonderful people at Overlook Hospice, especially Lisa, Laura, and April; their care and devotion to Elaine and the family is greatly appreciated.
Calling Hours for Elaine will be on Friday, July 9, from 10 a.m. until her Funeral Service begins at 12 Noon in MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation Street, Worcester. Interment will follow at Saint John’s Cemetery, Worcester.
In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to Overlook Hospice, 88 Masonic Home Road, Charlton, MA 01507.
