Elaine Husson

April 8, 1936 — November 30, 2022

Elaine H. Husson, 86, formerly of Shrewsbury, passed away peacefully, Wednesday, November 30th 2022.

Elaine was born in Worcester, the daughter of Syrian immigrants, George M. and Mary (Armoush) Husson. She was a devout Orthodox Christian and member of St. George's Orthodox Cathedral in Worcester. Her grandfather, the Very Reverend Michael Husson, was the first Syrian Orthodox priest ordained in the United States, and also remains to have been the longest serving priest at St George’s.

Elaine was active in the church choir, Soyo, and Knights of St. George. Elaine held fulfilling positions at Stone and Webster Boston, Hanover Insurance, and UMASS Medical School.

Elaine spent many years living on Lake Quinsigamond, where she could usually be found working outside in her yard (and very often also in everyone else’s). She was in her element surrounded by plants, toiling in the soil, and trimming flowers. She loved the lake- with the exception of the large groups of geese who paid her visits and the loud sounds and waves from passing jet skis. Elaine was distinctive with her style and her one-of-a-kind character. She was ahead of her time as a professional in her careers, and as an independently fierce woman who could do it all herself without complaint.

Her tenacious spirit and lessons she taught her nieces and nephews will inevitably live on through them. She was nurturing to everyone, and it was evident by the light in her eyes just how happy it made her to be amongst the children in the family.  She took any opportunity to teach them something, and proudly led the annual family "Christmas Play" with all of her girls. She gave of herself to loved ones. She stepped up and provided care to family when the need(s) arose, without ever being asked or expecting anything in return. She was confident in her choices and unapologetic about what she preferred. She was known for her famous "Aunty Elaine Cake" with homemade frosting and her delicious mac and cheese- even if only quickly delivering them to the party- they always made an appearance, even if she didn't. Elaine always had some sort of goodies on hand and Dove bars were always stashed in her freezer for the kids at any given time. She stood by what she believed was right and good, with love and God always in mind. Elaine blessed her family with many memories and stories which simply cannot be told without a good laugh.

She is survived by many nieces and nephews; A sister, Audrey Derany of Needham, and extended family members and friends.  In addition to her parents, her siblings: Sylvia Husson, Dolores “Dolly” Samra, Janet Abraham, Michael Husson, and Beverly Hanna, all predeceased her.

The family would like to extend gratitude to the staff of Holy Trinity Nursing facility for their attentive and compassionate care of Elaine in her final days.

A period of calling hours will be held, Monday December 5th, from 10:00 am to 10:45am in St George Orthodox Cathedral, 30 Anna Street.  Her funeral service will follow at 11 am in the Cathedral.
