Elaine D. (Kwiatkowski) Scannell of Northborough formerly of Hubbardston and Worcester passed away Friday, August 23, 2019 surrounded by her loved ones. She was 80 years old.
Elaine is survived by her children Deborah Hersh, her husband Jon and their son Sam of Northborough; Matthew Narel, his wife Jennean Hunter of Standish Maine and his children Cameron and Paige; Leonard Narel, his wife Sharon and their twin daughters Emily and Kayla of Worcester. Elaine also leaves her sister Diane Gorak and her husband Ed of Westborough, her former husband Richard Narel of Worcester, and many nieces and nephews. Elaine was predeceased by her husband James Scannell and her sister Karen Coax.
Elaine was born in Worcester to John and Hewig Kwiatkowski. She was raised in the Vernon Hill area, attended and graduated from St. Mary's High School, and received her Associates degree from Becker College. Elaine worked for several law firms and was the office manager for School Service Bureau in Worcester. She and her husband James then owned and operated the Club Car Restaurant and Pub for 15 years until her retirement. She became a bus monitor for AA transportation in Shrewsbury in her later years.
Elaine was an outgoing, generous person with a vibrant personality. A devout Catholic, Elaine was an active member of Our Lady of Czestochowa in Worcester and St Patrick Parish in Rutland where she was involved in the choir, religious education, and social and community outreach organizations. She was also a member of the Northborough Area Community Chorus, and the Walking Club at the Northborough Senior Center.
Ever the adventurer, Elaine loved to travel enjoying cruises to the Bahamas, Bermuda and Hawaii, as well as a trip to Jerusalem and the Holy Land. She was an avid and exceptional knitter; she enjoyed reading, gardening and the company of her many friends and family. Elaine loved the beach where she would spend the whole day sunning. Her greatest joy was her grandchildren who all lovingly called her Babci.
Friends and Relatives are invited to attend calling hours Tuesday August 27th, 2019 from 5pm to 8pm at the MECADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St., and again from 9 to 9:45am Wednesday at St Patrick’s Parish, 258 Main St. Rutland. Her celebration of life funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 am at St Patrick’s Parish. Burial following the Mass at St. Luke’s Cemetery in Westborough.
