Elba “Giselle” Ortiz, 39 of Worcester, passed away on Friday, December 23, 2022 at UMass Memorial Hospital.
Giselle was born in Manhattan, New York. She attended North High School later graduating and received a certification from Salter School. Giselle had a passion to help others and worked as a social worker for various companies before retiring early due to illness. She was a private person who enjoyed dancing, listening to music but most importantly raising her children. Giselle will be deeply missed.
Giselle is survived by her daughter, Kiara Janae Colon of Shrewsbury; her mother, Olga I. Otero De Souza and her husband Jose; her father, Jose Luis Ortiz, Sr.; her brother, Jose Luis Ortiz, Jr. and his wife Diana Mercado; a sister, Olga Perez and her husband James; her maternal grandfather, Jose Otero, Sr.; an aunt, Madeline Johns and her husband Kevin; an uncle, Jose Otero, Jr. all of Worcester; many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. Giselle was predeceased by her son, Justice Angel Batista on February 13, 2022. She is also predeceased by her maternal grandmother, Irma Cruz; her paternal grandparents, Claudio Ortiz and Dominga Torres.
A period of calling hours will be held on Thursday, January 5, 2022 from 9-10:30 am in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St., Worcester. Her funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, January 5th at 11:30 am in St. Peter’s Church, 931 Main St., Worcester. Burial next to her son will follow in Notre Dame Cemetery, Worcester.
