Eldora (Brooken) Alford, 95, of Worcester, passed away on Sunday, June 27, 2021, at Saint Mary Healthcare in Worcester. She was predeceased by her husband, Leroy Alford in 1984.
“Honey”, as she is affectionately known, is survived by a son, Robert J. Alford of Worcester; three daughters, Gloria L. Larkin of Worcester, Sandra F. Troy and her husband Kenneth of Surprise, AZ, and Velma Jenkins of Worcester; eleven grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. Honey has had to bear a pain and separation that no parent should ever experience, as she was predeceased by four of her children, Latrell Barnes, Harold, Larry, and Carl Alford; and she was the last surviving of nine children born to the late, James E. and Essie M. (Gardner) Brooken. Siblings predeceasing her were, Elmer, Clyde, Felton, Milton, and Blanch Brooken, Rena Davis, Fannie Wilson, and Leila Terry. Having been born in Sylvester, Georgia, her parents too, were from Worth County, Georgia. She later moved to Sanford, Florida in 1956, before setting in Worcester in the early 1960’s.
“Honey” was a talented seamstress and worked for many years at Cottage Tailor and Nancy Howard Sportswear. She was faith filled and was a reader and proclaimer of the Psalms and Book of Proverbs from her Bible. She was a member of the International Ladies Garment Workers Union, she enjoyed cooking, baking and she loved sports and being an avid fan of baseball in particular the Red Sox/Yankee rivalry games. She was so very passionate about her love for her family, and they gave her the greatest joy.
Funeral Services are being held privately.
