Eleanor I. (Mangiulli) Lupisella, 95, of Worcester, passed away peacefully with family gathered by her side, Monday, April 23rd 2018 joining in heaven her husband, son, daughter and family members including her sister Gilda Iacovone who passed away April 11th.
Eleanor was born and raised in Worcester, on Adams street in the Shrewsbury street neighborhood, one of seven children of Italian immigrants, Joseph and Victoria (Guido) Mangiulli. Just after the end of World War II, Eleanor married Joseph Lupisella and together built a home on land off Grafton street which is known now as; “The Compound” where they raised their family and lived in dedication, devotion, love and family for over 44 years before Joseph passed away in 1991. Eleanor continued to nurture, love and lead her family on the compound until recently. She worked as unit secretary for the University of Massachusetts hospital always proud that she worked for the first hospice floor years ago
Eleanor is survived by her devoted and cherished family, Joseph “Jay” Lupisella and his wife Susan, Jeffrey L. Lupisella and his wife Phyllis, all of Worcester, Marie Albano and her husband Joseph of West Newton; son in law David Woods in Charlton; six grandchildren, Frank Albano, Cara Cassie, Robert Lupisella, Kristy Latino, Nick Lupisella and Olivia Lupisella; five great grandchildren; Many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Besides her husband Joseph, Eleanor was pre-deceased by her two children, Anthony J. Lupisella and Carol L Woods; her brothers, Salvatore, Anthony and Mario Mangiulli, and her sisters, Maria Amato, Nancy Falco and Gilda Iacovone. Eleanor's children would like to acknowledge Julia Merchan, Eleanor's long time care giver through Worcester Elder Services for her friendship, dedication and loyalty to their mother.
Eleanor was a member of Our Lady of Mt Carmel parish, its Golden Years association and Tuesday Bocce League, and the Worcester Lodge 168, Sons of Italy. She was the definition of "mother"; her unwavering dedication to her children cannot be overstated. She always set as examples generosity, the value of family, and the power of prayer. She had a gift for listening with compassion. Eleanor loved to cook for friends and family. Her Italian meals and especially her Italian cookies will be forever missed by her children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
It is certain that her memory will resonate not only in the hearts of those who were touched by her life but in the spirit of her children who were blessed with a mom who will be to them, a gift that was genuine and irreplaceable. Friends and relatives are invited to a period of calling hours Thursday, April 26th from 8:30 am to 10:30 am in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St. followed by a family procession to Our Lady of Loreto Church, 37 Massasoit Rd where her nephew, Reverend Ronald G Falco will preside over her celebration of life mass at 11:00 am. Burial next to her husband and son will follow in St John Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Elder Services of Worcester 67 Millbrook St. Suite 100, Worcester, MA 01606.
