On Thursday, November 9th, 2023, the Grafton and formerly Worcester communities lost a wonderful mother, grandmother, sister and friend, Eleanor (Campomizzi) Palmieri, 80, who suddenly passed away at home in her sleep. She was predeceased by her husband Stephen A. Palmieri, Jr. who passed away in January of 2021.
Eleanor, known as Ellie to her family and friends, was born in Worcester, on November 23, 1942, one of three children of Ettore and Lucy (DeAngelis) Campomizzi. She graduated from North High School in Worcester, then earned a certificate in Xray Technology through a joint program with Memorial Hospital and Northeastern University. She worked as an X ray technician at Memorial Hospital followed by many years working in the insurance and banking industries before retiring to care for her family. Ellie and Steve raised their family in Boylston for 30 plus years before moving to Grafton over 12 years ago where she loved and helped care for her three grandchildren.
Ellie grew up on the Eastside of Worcester, in the famed Italian section Shrewsbury Street, enjoying activities at East Park, the Italian festivals, and all that this vibrant neighborhood had to offer.
Ellie was the matriarch of her family, ensuring that they were all cared for and loved. Her family, especially her grandchildren, were the most important part of her life and always brought a smile to her face. She was proud of them and all their accomplishments. You could always find Ellie in the stands, on the field, or in the theater cheering on her grandchildren. Her unwavering support and warm presence will forever be etched in the hearts of those she held dear. Eleanor’s greatest moments were those spent with her family during Holidays, and special occasions. She was a kind soul, with a big heart, and bright smile and will be greatly missed.
She is survived by her daughter and best friend, Cheryl Palmieri with whom she lived, a son, Stephen J. Palmieri and his wife Michelle of Foxborough; a sister, Carol A. Campomizzi and her husband Bruce Forrestall of Westboro; a brother, Robert J. Campomizzi of Worcester; the grandchildren she adored and took so much pride in, Alyssa, Madison, and Matthew Luber; nieces and nephews, as well other extended family members and many friends.
