Elena Robertson

Elena (Paladino) Robertson, 95, of Millbury, passed away peacefully on January 4, 2025, at home with her adoring daughter by her side. Those closest to her lovingly called her “Memma”.

Elena was born on July 30, 1929, in Worcester, MA, daughter of the late Michael A. and Ermalinda (Volpicelli) Paladino. She attended Commerce High School in Worcester, MA. 

Elena and her husband met in 1946 while both were working at the former Mayflower Donut Shop in Worcester, MA. They were married on June 4, 1949, at Sacred Heart Church in Worcester, MA and went on to raise their two daughters together in Worcester and Auburn, MA. They had more than 75 amazing years of marriage together. Elena lived in Auburn for nearly 60 years where she was a member of St. Joseph’s Parish before moving to Millbury in 2024. 

Elena’s greatest joy in life was her family. She loved taking care of them and especially feeding them. She was an incredible cook, and you never went to her house without her saying, “do you want something to eat?” Meatballs, sausage, stuffed breads, pies, homemade soups, and her famous homemade donuts were just a few of her specialties. She could make something delicious out of nothing and no one left her house hungry or without a Cool Whip bowl full of leftovers. 

She also loved to read, solve crossword puzzles, immerse herself in Harlequin novels, sewing and going to yard sales and her favorite destination, the dollar store. If there was a bargain to be found, she would find it. 

Over the course of many years Elena and her husband traveled to many destinations such as Hawaii, Bermuda, Mexico, Florida, Aruba, California, Canada, and camping in Cape Cod with her family. Elena and her beloved husband’s favorite place to vacation was Las Vegas. 

Elena leaves behind her adoring daughter Chrisine McIntyre of Millbury; her loving grandchildren Adam Germain, Brian McIntyre and his wife Amy, Nichole Howarth and her husband Nicholas; a son-in-law Russell Germain; her cherished great grandchildren, Riley and Alexandra Howarth, Jonah and Nikodemos McIntyre; her beloved sister, Rose Dangredo; and many nieces and nephews. Elena was predeceased by her loving husband Edmund E. Robertson who passed on December 19, 2024; daughter Marlene Germain; brothers Louis Paladino, Albert Paladino, Joseph Paladino; and sisters, Jeanette Maglione, Catherine Pruitt, Margaret Lovejoy and Anna Ricci. 

Mercadante Funeral Home & Chapel are honored to assist the family with arrangements. Relatives and friends are invited to extend their condolences at Edmund and Elena’s Memorial gathering from 8:30a.m. to 9:30a.m. at the Mercadante Funeral Home and Chapel, 370 Plantation Street, Worcester, on Tuesday, January 14, 2025. At 9:30a.m. the procession to Sacred Heart - St. Catherine of Sweden Parish, 596 Cambridge St., Worcester for their Memorial Mass at 10:00a.m. will begin. Interment will immediately follow in St. John's Cemetery, Worcester.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Elena’s memory to the American Heart Association.
