Ellen C. (Flaherty) Alicandro, a lifelong resident of Worcester, passed away on Saturday, September 4th, 2021, reuniting with the “Love of her Life” and husband of 67 years Vincent P. Alicandro, Sr. who passed away July 7, 2020.
Ellen is survived by, two daughters, Kathleen A. Alicandro of Worcester, and Rosemarie Nyman and her husband Scott of Shrewsbury; three sons, Vincent P. Alicandro, Jr. of Worcester, Charles A. Alicandro and his wife Jean of New Britain, CT, and A. Jeffrey Alicandro and his wife Dotty of North Rose, NY; eight grandchildren, Samantha and John Alicandro, Erin and Carly Alicandro, Ryen Alicandro, Lindsay LaMora, Madeleine Harmon, and Alec Nyman; five great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews, extended family and friends. In addition to her parents and husband, nine brothers, Walter, William, Robert, Charles, Arthur, Roy, Joseph, Edward, and Harold Flaherty predeceased her. Ellen was born in Worcester, the only girl of ten children of Charles and Catherine (Brown) Flaherty, she graduated from Commerce High School, and Becker Junior College, one the oldest living graduates of Becker. She has lived her entire life in the home she grew up in.
Ellen worked many years as a bookkeeper for the O.S. Walker Company before retiring. She loved to read, knit, especially sweaters and hats for her large family, crossword puzzles, family holidays, special occasions, and trips to the Bahamas with Vinny. In Ellens life, nothing came before her family, especially her beautiful grand and great grandchildren, she cherished all the times she could spend babysitting, attending Activities and just being with her family.
A period of calling hours will be held Friday, September 17th from 10 to 12 noon followed by a Prayer service at 12 noon, in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation Street, Worcester. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
