Eric Maynard Rowe, age 80 passed away peacefully at Dodge Park Rest Home on June 16th, 2023, with his niece by his side.
Eric was born on July 10, 1942. He grew up primarily in Holbrook, Quincy, and Hull Massachusetts. Eric graduated from Hull High School in 1960 and from Boston University in 1964.
He served on active duty with the US Coast Guard for nine months and 1964 to 1965, then for several years with the Coast Guard reserve. From 1965 to 1971, Eric was a general assignment reporter for the Patriot Ledger of Quincy, with a particular focus on courts and town boards around the South Shore. Later, he contributed freelance material to Maine Life magazine and Yankee magazine.
From 1971 to 1982, Eric had several jobs involving teaching or journalism in Massachusetts and in Augusta, Maine, where he resided for five years.
Eric returned to Massachusetts in 1982 where he began a 20-year career with the Boston office of the Mass Department of Employment and training, now called DUA. He served as an adjudicator for the last 15 years there.
He was a member of American Mensa for more than 40 years. He enjoyed playing chess with his best friend, Alan Tubman. They enjoyed 70 years of friendship. Eric loved cats and was known to feed the stray cats in his neighborhood.
Eric is predeceased by brothers, Arthur Rowe, and Jonathan (Rowe) Rivers, and by sister Susan Rowe. Eric is survived by niece, Jenine Vindice and her husband Vinny of Wilmington and their children, Celia, Vinny, and Jacob; Nephew Leonard Rowe and wife Carol Letendre of Marshfield; Cousin Marsha Stone and husband, Norm Hirschfeld of Greenfield, MA; Best friend Alan Tubman and wife Susan Tubman of Worcester; Also, several cousins in NC, and NY.
