Ernest P. Brackett, Sr.

Ernest P. Brackett Sr., 85, of Worcester, passed away on Thursday, August 2, 2018 at UMass Hospital in Worcester.  His wife Jeanette (LaFond) Brackett predeceased him in 1967.  

Ernest was born in Worcester, son of the late Arthur and Eliza (Lamoureaux) Brackett and has lived here all his life.  He worked for many years as a machinist for NED Corporation, retiring in 1995.  Before his career in manufacturing, he worked at several area restaurants as a cook.  Never one to be idle, upon his retirement Ernest kept himself occupied in several ways, one of which was as a crossing guard for ten years at the Grafton Street School, as well as operating his own office cleaning business.

Ernest was a member of Saint John’s Church, he enjoyed yard sales, gardening, music and dancing.  He was a kind man and adored his grandchildren and his many dogs. 

Ernest is survived by his son, Ernest “Tubby” P. Brackett Jr. and wife Annmarie of Sterling; his two daughters, Claudia A. Montano and husband Dan of Rocky Hill, CT, and Janine M. Perley and husband Mark A. of Worcester; his brother in law, Albert Pettipas of Worcester; a sister, Pauline Fagan and her husband Alfred of Fitchburg; seven grandchildren, Meggan and husband William, Vanessa and husband Ben, Brianna, Daniel Jr., Samantha and husband Nicolas, Brittany, and Mark Jr.; five great grandchildren, Welcome, Gianna, Giulianna, Maddalena, and Shaylene; many nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by seven brothers and sisters.  

Calling Hours for Ernest will be on Tuesday, August 7, from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. in Mercadante Funeral Home & Chapel, 370 Plantation Street, Worcester.  His Funeral will be on Wednesday, August 8, from the funeral home, departing at 9:40 a.m., in procession for a 10 a.m. Funeral Mass at Saint John’s Church, 44 Temple Street, Worcester.  Interment will follow in Notre Dame Cemetery, Worcester.
