Ernest J. “Ernie” George, 87, a lifelong Worcester resident, devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend passed away surrounded by the family he loved Wednesday, July 7, 2021, after a period of declining health.
Ernie was born in Worcester, the son of John and Selma (Assiff) George. Raised and educated in Worcester, he graduated from Commerce High School, joined the U.S. Army during the Korean War serving his country proudly. Upon discharge and return to Worcester, Ernie married the “Love of his Life” Shirley M. Skaff from Lowell. They settled in Worcester raising their family with love, faith, and dedication. Ernie with a bright smile, kind heart and personable demeanor supported his family as an Advertising Sales Representative. He loved sales but enjoyed meeting new people along the way even more. He was so good at his job; his clients would welcome him and talk for long periods of time about any current event of the day. Ernie had such an infectious personality that anyone that met him immediately adored him!
Ernie supported all New England Teams; mainly the Red Sox and Patriots and possessed the unique talent of listening to sports talk radio, reading the sports page and watching a game all at the same time. Ernie cherished being with his extended family, playing cards, celebrating holidays together and “most important” what was for dinner!
Ernie is survived by his wife and best friend of 64 years, Shirley; his three children he was so proud of, Darrell George and his wife Courtney of Rancho Palos Verdes, CA, Eric George and his wife Christine, Kimberly Sciascia and her husband Phil all of Worcester; a devoted brother, Phillip George and his wife Patricia; seven grandchildren who affectionately called him “Jido”, Nicola, Gillian, and Drake George, Taylor and Kyle George, Nicholas and Kailey Sciascia; nieces, nephews, extended family, friends and clients. In addition to his parents, two sisters, Margaret and Marie George predeceased him.
Ernest was a devoted member and active volunteer of St. George Orthodox Cathedral. He and Shirley dedicated their time and talents over the years assisting the church during many events and functions. He was a member of the Men’s Club, served on the Church Board of Directors, Church Committees and as a Church Usher.
