Esther (Marzilli) Fitzgerald, 90, of Brewster, passed away Friday, June 7, 2024, with her devoted husband by her side.
Esther was born in Worcester to Antonio and Michelina Marzilli who predeceased her. She is survived by her husband of almost 69 years, Albert B. Fitzgerald of Brewster. She also leaves behind her beloved children, Mary (Harvey) Fontaine of Bonita Springs, FL., Lynn (Bruce) Reed of Worcester, Cathy (Robert Jarrard) Fitzgerald of Shrewsbury, and Francis (Haydee) Fitzgerald of Connecticut. She also leaves three cherished grandchildren, Annie Fitzgerald, and Robert and Jessica Jarrard. She was predeceased by her sisters, Angelina Vescera, Mary DiPasquale, Jennie DiPilato and brother Thomas Marzilli, along with her sister-in-law, Antoinette (Marzilli) Palermo. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Esther graduated from Commerce H.S. in Worcester. She worked for 30 years for the Worcester Public Schools as Head Clerk of Adult Education. She continued working part-time upon her retirement for the Nauset Public Schools as the Director of Community Education for 20 years until her second retirement at age 86.
Esther was the president of the Administrative Secretary Association of Worcester Public Schools and as the secretary of the Women's Guild of St. Margaret Mary 's Church in Worcester.
She was a member of Our Lady of the Cape Church in Brewster. MA and a former member of Our Lady of the Rosary Church in Worcester.
Esther was an excellent cook and baker. She loved to knit, crochet and paint. She completed the daily crossword puzzle in her local newspaper and beat her daughters most of the time in Wordle every day. The most important aspect of Esther's life was faith and family. She was happiest in the company of her family, neighbors and friends. She loved her life on Cape Cod. She was a kindhearted soul who will be dearly missed by all.
A period of calling hours will be held Wednesday, June 12, 2024, from 9 am to 10:30 am in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St followed by a procession to Our Lady of Rosary Church 35 Fales Street where her funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 am. Burial will follow in St John Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial remembrance in her name can be made to St John Food for the Poor, 34 Temple Street, Worcester Ma.
