Felicetta “Phyllis” (Finocchi) D’Agostino, 89, of Worcester, passed away surrounded by her family on Thursday, March 30, 2023.
Phyllis was born in Castrovalva, Italy, in the L’Aquila province of Abruzzo. She was the daughter of Camillo and Concetta (Nanni) Finocchi. Raised in Italy, Phyllis immigrated to the United States in 1952. Three years later, on June 18, 1955, she married Lawrence “Larry” D’Agostino in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church. They settled in the Belmont Hill neighborhood of Worcester, where they raised their family with love, heritage, and devotion. Phyllis worked first at Dapol Plastics, and later at Wearwell Trousers and Worcester Coat Company before becoming a stay-at-home caregiver to all those around her. When Larry passed away in 2017 after 62 years of marriage, Phyllis continued as the backbone of the family.
Phyllis is survived by her three devoted children, Anthony D’Agostino and his wife Debra of Leicester, Ann Marie Cyr and her husband Jeffrey of Worcester, and Louise Ventriglia and her husband Salvatore of Boylston; seven grandchildren, their spouses, and their children of whom she was so proud and adored: Elisa Taylor, her husband Christopher, and their son, Calvin, Jeffrey Cyr, his wife Carisa, and their son, Lorenzo, Stephanie Glennon, her husband Daniel, and their daughter, Raegan, Angela D’Agostino, Gregory Cyr, his wife Ashley, and their children, Vivian, Lucas, and Vera, Domenic D’Agostino and his wife Jennifer, and Zachary Cyr, his wife Katy, and their children, Adam and Kieran; a sister-in-law, Pina D’Agostino of Shrewsbury; many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends. In addition to her husband, Larry, and parents, a great-grandson, Sebastian, and cousin she looked at as a brother, Fernando Nanni, predeceased her.
Phyllis was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel and Our Lady of Loreto Parish. She loved to cook, bake, garden, travel back to Italy to visit family, take bus trips with the Jamesbury Retirement Club, play bingo, and sew. Phyllis was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother; she always put her family first. All were welcome in her home and never left without having something to eat or take with them. Pursuant to her Italian upbringing, Christmas Eve, other holidays, special occasions, and family dinners were always a focus of her pride. Her bright smile, kind heart, and words of guidance will be missed. The family would like to thank the staff at Christopher Heights for welcoming Phyllis into their community with open arms; she loved her time there and always spoke fondly about her friends.
Friends and family are invited to calling hours, Tuesday, April 4th from 4 pm to 7 pm, in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME and CHAPEL, 370 Plantation Street. Her funeral will be held Wednesday, April 5th from the funeral home with a procession to Our Lady of Mount Carmel and Our Lady of Loreto Church, 37 Massasoit Road, where her Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 am. Entombment next to Larry will follow in Notre Dame Mausoleum.
