Flamur Haxhiaj

Flamur Haxhiaj, 72, of Worcester, passed away peacefully on February 23, 2019, surrounded by his loved ones.

Born and raised in Vlora, Albania, he was the son of Haxhi and Shpresa Haxhiaj.  Flamur lived, worked, and raised his family in Vlora before emigrating to the United States in 1999.  He was employed by the Salmon Corporation and worked at their Beaumont facilities in Westboro and Holden before retiring.  

Flamur is survived by his wife of 46 years, Engjellushe “Angelina” Haxhiaj; his two devoted daughters, Mandi Gueguen in France and Etel Haxhiaj of Worcester; four grandchildren: Luke, Avel, Danny and Louarn; his sisters Gugushe Graceni, Inxhi Mitaj, and Loredana Maksuti; his sister-in-law Tatjana Haxhiraj; and Mike Capacchione; many nieces, nephews and extended family members both here in the United States and at home in Albania.  He is predeceased by his beloved younger brother, Bashkim Haxhiraj.  

As a trained opera singer, his main passions were music and art.  He performed for many audiences, including family and friends. He looked forward to spending his golden years with the love of his life, Angelina, who he affectionately called Xhokonda. He loved taking his two grandsons, Luke and Danny, out for walks. His biggest passions, besides his family, were singing, painting and gardening. He was very proud of his two daughters, Etel and Mandi, and he loved his four grandsons. He had a big heart and always loved giving to others. He was looking forward to supporting his younger daughter, Etel, in her run for office. 

Friends and relatives are invited to calling hours,Wednesday, February 27^th from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St.   His funeral service will be celebrated at 7:00 pm in the funeral home.   Burial services will take place on Thursday, February 28, from the funeral home beginning at 10:00 am with a procession to Hope Cemetery where his graveside committal will be held at 11:00 am.  The family requests that those wishing to attend graveside services arrive at the funeral home by 10:00am on Thursday. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to:  Joy of Music program in memory of Flamur Haxhiaj, 1 Gorham Street, Worcester, 01605
