Francis J. “Butch” Mahoney, Sr. 80, of Worcester, passed away on Tuesday, March 1, 2022, at Christopher House in Worcester, with beloved family at his bedside.
Butch is survived by the love of his life, Grace M. (DiSilvestri) Mahoney, who he married fifty-eight years ago at Mount Carmel Church in Worcester before “honeymooning” in Florida. He is also survived by their three children, Denise (Mahoney) Houle of Worcester, Francis J. “Butch” Mahoney, Jr. and his wife Kelly of Holden, and Shawn Mahoney of Worcester; four grandchildren, Nicholas and Nathan Houle, Caroline and Colleen Mahoney; three brothers, Dennis Mahoney, Brian Mahoney, and Timothy Bent; nieces and nephews. Butch was predeceased by his daughter in law, Tessa (Mattress) Mahoney in December 2021; he was also predeceased by two brothers, Steven and Richard Mahoney and by his loving aunt, Helen Possidente, who raised him after his mother died. He was born in Worcester, son of the late Francis T. and Rita (Possidente) Mahoney and has lived here all his life.
Butch was always the “life of the party” he loved to make everyone laugh and anyone that knew him loved him. He loved to ride his Harley, especially when Grace told him not to; it always brought a huge smile to his face. Butch was stylish and loved to wear all kinds of hats. He enjoyed coaching Worcester Youth Football for over twenty years and loved a good Bocci or Softball game, or a round of golf. He was a huge Red Sox fan. He loved music and was the bass vocalist in a Doo Wop group called “The Maridors”. He was a lifetime member of The Brown Square Civic Club and a member of the Knights of Columbus.
Butch worked for many years for Waters Corporation, Millipore in Milford, retiring as a Manufacturing Manager, he had previously worked for the City of Worcester Department of Public Works. In his retirement, Butch worked part time as an attendant for Mercadante Funeral Home.
Calling Hours will be on Sunday, March 6, from 3 p.m. until 6 p.m. in MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation Street, Worcester. His Funeral Service will be on Monday, March 7, at 11 a.m. in the funeral home. Interment will follow at Notre Dame Cemetery, Worcester.
