Frank A. “Hank” Abasciano, 94 of Worcester passed away peacefully, February 24, 2022 in his home with his four loving children by his side.
Born in Shrewsbury, MA, Frank was the son of Mauro and Mary (Papagni) Abasciano. After graduating high school from Boy’s Trade, he would go onto attend Cushing Academy and the University of Alabama. In 2009, Frank was also inducted into the Worcester Hall of Fame for his athletic contributions in Football, Baseball, and Basketball.
Following his schooling, Frank entered the United States Army and while enlisted, served in the Korean War. During the war, he fought in seven major battles including the famous Battle of the Chosen Reservoir, earning him the title of one of the Chosen Few which he was very proud to represent. For his service, Frank was awarded the Combat Infantry Badge; The Republic of Korea Presidential Citation and the Korean Service Medal with 5 Bronze Service Stars.
A master tile setter, Hank enjoyed being with his family and friends who loved his endless sense of humor, storytelling and love for life. Never without a smile on his face, Hank could be found having coffee with the guys, having fun at the Casino or playing weekly bingo games with friends at the Senior Center. His greatest joy however was the quality time he got to spend with each of his kids and grandkids each and every day!
Frank is predeceased by his loving wife of 53 years, Jennie (Nardero) Abasciano. He is survived by his four loving children; Frank J. Abasciano; Mauro J. Abasciano; Gary Abasciano and his significant other, Dotty Pecora; a daughter, Cindy M. and her husband John R. Roy, all of Worcester and three sisters-in-law, Florence Collins of Worcester, Barbara Abasciano, and Evelyn Abasciano, both of Shrewsbury. Frank was blessed with six grandchildren, James, Jennifer, Joseph, Erik, Jonathan and Erika; six great grandchildren, Jordyn, Kolby, Isabella, Gabriella, Anthony and Gabriel as well as many nieces and nephews.
Calling hours are from 4 pm until 7 pm, Wednesday, March 2 in MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation Street, Worcester. Franks celebration of life will be held on Thursday, March 3rd, from the funeral home with a Funeral Mass at 10:00 am at St. Anne’s Church, Shrewsbury, MA. Entombment will follow will Military Honors in Notre Dame Mausoleum.
