Frederick "Fred" Burgoyne

Frederick “Fred” Burgoyne, 68, of Worcester, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 29, 2022, in the comfort of his own home, having been ceaselessly surrounded by loving family.

Fred was born in Worcester, the son of George and Dorothy (Hutchinson) Burgoyne. He grew up in Boylston, graduated from Tahanto Regional High School and Quinsigamond Community College. Fred worked as an X-ray Technician at St. Vincent Hospital in Worcester, and then spent many years in the Radiology Department of UMass-Memorial Hospital, retiring as a longtime Supervisor of the Cat Scan Department at the UMass Marlborough Hospital campus.  

Fred is survived by his wife of 45 years, Sandra L. (Boosahda) Burgoyne, and two children he loved dearly and was immensely proud of, Andrew D. Burgoyne and his wife Becky of Northbridge, Amanda Burgoyne Khoshaba and her husband Sonny of Chicago, Illinois; a brother, William Burgoyne and his wife Julie of Florida, and sister Dorothy Josephson of New Hampshire. One of Fred’s greatest joys in life was being grandfather to five grandchildren he adored, and who lovingly called him “PopPop”: Avery, Connor, Evelyn, Anthony and Daniel. He also treasured all of his nieces, nephews, extended family members and a host of friends, whom he always endeavored to keep smiling.

Fred was a member of St George Orthodox Cathedral. A devoted family man and loyal friend, Fred could always be counted on to greet you with a bright smile, a laugh, and a joke. Every room lit up when Fred entered. His huge heart, caring soul, and his kind manner endeared him to all. His grandchildren adored him and always wanted to be with, swap jokes with, or video call their beloved PopPop. Fred’s family was his world. Whether on a family vacation, visits to the family camp in Millbury, the holidays, special occasions, or just being together with extended family, these times were precious and fully cherished.

Family and friends are invited to his calling hours, Tuesday, May 3, 2022, from 4 pm to 7 pm in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St. Worcester. His funeral will be held Wednesday, May 4^th at St. George Orthodox Cathedral, 30 Anna St., Worcester, MA. Liturgy will be celebrated at 10:00 am. Burial will follow in Hope Cemetery.
