Gennaro E. Urso, 89, of Worcester died peacefully Monday September 24, 2018 in the Lutheran Home surrounded by his loving family. Gennaro is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years Virginia M. (Navin) Urso, the two of them were inseparable. his three sons, Thomas E. Urso and his wife Cindy Furhman of Worcester, James W. Urso and his wife Lori of Worcester, and Robert F. Urso and his wife Michele of Auburn. Gennaro was the proud grandfather to Jessica and her husband Kevin, Matthew, Caitlin and her partner Jon, and Nicholas. He also leaves a great granddaughter Ava, and many nephews and nieces. Gennaro was predeceased by a brother Anthony Urso, and four sisters, Dorothy D’onofrio, Irene Urso, Sylvia Latino, and Mildred Virga.
Gennaro was born in Worcester son of the late Gennaro and Rose (Pane) Urso and lived here all his life. He attended Worcester Public Schools. Gennaro proudly served in Germany in the United States Army during the Korean war.Upon returning home he went to work for the Amorello Construction Company as a heavy equipment operator where he worked for many years before he retired. He was a member of Our Lady of Loreto Church, and the East Side Post American Legion #201. Gennaro was most happy when his family was around him. He loved to vacation with his family at Cape Cod, and was a loyal Red Sox fan. Gennaro will be sadly missed by his family and friends.
We would like to thank the entire staff at the Lutheran Home and the Brookdale Senior Living Center in Auburn for their kindness and compassion shown to our Father during his stay there, it will always be appreciated.
Gennaro’s funeral will be held on Thursday September 27, with a Mass of Christian burial at 10:00AM in the Church of Our Lady of Loreto 37 Massasoit Rd. A calling hour IN THE CHURCH will be held from 9:00AM until the Mass at 10:00AM. Interment with Military Honors will be in St Johns Cemetery. The MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL 370 Plantation St is assisting the family with Gennaro’s services. In lieu of flowers Contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society 30 Speen St. Framingham, MA. 01701.
