Genoveva (Veva) Flores, 81, of Worcester, MA, passed away on Monday, November 2, 2020 after a brief illness. Her husband of 47 years, Alvin Gonzalez Flores died in 2016.
Genoveva was born in Canovanas, Puerto Rico on December 31, 1938. She was the daughter of Juana Rivera and Ramon Flores. She moved to the United States in 1967 to New York City and later settling in Worcester, MA where she lived for 45 years.
Genoveva was a homemaker. She raised her children and helped to raise other family members. Genoveva was a strong selfless woman who was very opinionated but at the same time was supportive of her loved ones. She always gave advice to those around her about her life experiences and encouraged those around her to be independent, to work hard, and look to better their lives. The strength and tough love that she radiated to her family made a strong line of individuals. Genoveva was a long-time member of Joan of Arc Church and enjoyed attending. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends, knitting and crochet, shopping at Walmart, playing dominos, going to Bingo, going to the Casino, and her newest hobby of scrolling through her Facebook page.
She is survived by her children, Leonardo Alvarado, Mayra Ortiz, Sandra Ramos and Elios Flores. She is survived by her brothers Jorge Flores, Ramon Flores, Jorge E. Flores and Jose R. Flores. She had 23 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren and 14 great-great-grandchildren. She had many nieces and nephews and other Family and Friends who cared for her.
Besides her husband, Genoveva is preceded in death by her oldest son Jose O. Sanchez, her sister Maria Flores, Felicita Flores, and Martina Flores, and her brothers, Victor Flores, Miguel A. Flores and Martin Flores.
Friends and family whose lives Veva touched are invited to MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation Street, Worcester from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Monday, November 9, 2020. A prayer service and burial will follow at Hope Cemetery.
*In accordance with current health regulations, social distancing practices and the use of a face mask will be required at the funeral home and cemetery.
