George R Ciociolo, Sr.

March 26, 1942 — December 7, 2021

George R. Ciociolo Sr., a dedicated husband, father, and Papa, passed away at home, Tuesday, December 7th, 2021, surrounded by the family he loved after a period of declining health. He was 79 years of age.

George was born and raised in Worcester, one of ten children of Italian immigrants Antonio and Antoinetta (DiVerdi) Ciociolo. He graduated from Commerce High School and joined the U.S. Army, serving many years honorably in Germany. George then attended Quinsigamond Community College and began a career as a carpenter/builder/contractor. He started working for his brother’s company, “Ciociolo Builders,” before continuing on his own as a self-employed contractor; building numerous homes throughout Central Mass. He was the owner of Centerwood Terrace Shopping Plaza in West Boylston.

George is survived by the “Love of his Life” and wife of 33 years, Lynne M. (Daignault) Ciociolo; his son, Dr. George R. Ciociolo, Jr. MD, his wife Victoria, and their daughter the apple of George’s eye Isabella Sofia of Northborough; two other children, including Christina Sawicki and her children Julia and William; a brother Michael Ciociolo in Santa Rosa, CA; a sister Virginia Henderson of Shrewsbury; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews, including his adored niece Karly and nephew Sam.  In addition to his parents, four brothers, Louis, Rocco, Antonio, and Matthew Ciociolo and three sisters, Marie Vacca, Isabella Leno, and Rose Sands all predeceased him.

In George’s life, his wife, son, and granddaughter came first. He was the backbone of his family, a man with a bright smile, huge heart, and generosity second to none. He honestly believed that faith, family, and friends were the most important parts of life and had room in his heart for everyone he met. George was very generous with his expertise, his time, and resources, and helped anyone he could. A beautiful man, George enjoyed the simple pleasures of life; gardening, cooking, and golfing, notably recording a hole in one on the 16th hole at Pleasant Valley CC, where he was a member for many years. Over the years he hosted many “Ciociolo Open” golf tournaments. Every year he enjoyed making wine with his son, a process he learned from his parents using his father’s original press.  He was an avid hunter, who frequented the Midwest over the years and enjoyed the occasional visit from a black bear on his front porch. He was a member of Our Lady of Mt Carmel Church and its Knights of Columbus counsel, the Worcester Lodge 168, Sons of Italy, and its Bocce League. A true car buff, George found pleasure taking long car rides with Lynne in his vintage silver 1966 Corvette. On any given weekday you could find his new toy, a red Corvette, parked outside “InHouse” on Shrewsbury Street; where he enjoyed coffee and debating with his close friends.

Calling hours for George will be held Monday, December 13th from 4 pm to 7 pm in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St. His funeral service will be held, Tuesday, Dec. 14th from the funeral home with a procession to Our Lady of Loreto Church, 37 Massasoit Rd. where his celebration of Christian burial will be held at 11:00 am. Burial with military honors will be in Mt Vernon Cemetery, West Boylston.  Members of the Worcester Lodge 168, Sons of Italy will meet 6 pm in the funeral home to conduct their ritual.
