George Francis McKenzie Jr., 78, of West Boylston, MA, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 28, 2023, in his home, surrounded by family and loved ones.
Born on September 23, 1944, in Worcester, MA, he was the son of the late George F. McKenzie Sr. and Harriet (Rivard) McKenzie. He leaves his wife of 50 years, Marylou (McNeil) McKenzie as well as his two daughters Lisa H. (McKenzie) Andrews, Shelly L. McKenzie, and his son Mark G. McKenzie and his wife Khmery McKenzie; three grandchildren, Devin M. Andrews, Destinee T. Andrews, Brittany C. Andrews; one great-grandchild Killian J. Molina; three sisters, Harriet(McKenzie) O'Connor and late husband Walter O'Connor Sr, Lillian (McKenzie) Brown and late husband Stanley Brown, Patricia (McKenzie) Clothier; many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
George attended high school at Boys Trade in Worcester, MA, graduating in 1962. After graduating, he enlisted in the U.S. Army from which he was honorably discharged in 1966. After serving in the Army, George began his professional career with Saltus Press, where he was employed as a manager in the Graphic Arts/Printing Department for 45 years. During his long career with Saltus Press, George was recognized several times for his knowledge, professionalism, and magnetic personality. He met his wife, Marylou, in 1968. The two married in December 1971 and began raising their family together. In his younger years, George enjoyed spending time collecting firearms and participating in shooting sports. He was always an avid animal lover and enjoyed playing cards with his friends and family. In retirement, George spent much of his time playing in local pub poker tournaments, winning more than his fair share.
Friends may call on the family on Monday, March 6 from 4:00 – 7:00 PM in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St, Worcester. George’s Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, March 7 at St. George Parish, 40 Brattle St, Worcester, leaving in procession from the funeral home at 9:30 AM. Interment will follow in St. John's Cemetery, 260 Cambridge St., Worcester.
