George A. Morse, Jr., 89, of Shrewsbury, passed away on Sunday, February 9, 2025 at UMass Hospital in Worcester. George’s long-time companion, Joan (Eident) Rocco, pre-deceased him in 2008.
George is survived by two step-sons, Stephen J. Rocco and his wife Deborah of Shrewsbury, and Glenn S. Rocco and his wife Kara of Worcester; five grandchildren, Maria Rocco, Andrea Rocco and her husband Evan, Deana Rocco, Gianna Rocco, and Lea Rocco; a great-granddaughter, Charlotte Racine; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother and sister, Harry Morse and Doris Files. George was born in Concord, MA, the son of the late, George A. and Viola I. (Merriam) Morse. Sadly, his mother passed away when George was young, and he was raised with the tender love of his aunt Eleanor.
George graduated from Acton High School in 1954 and later attended college for agricultural studies. He joined the United States Army and proudly served his country. George retired from the former National Envelope Company in Worcester, having previously enjoyed a long career with Stop and Shop Grocery Stores.
George enjoyed trips to Saratoga, where he could watch the races and take in the beautiful scenery of upstate New York. He loved “The Wonder of It All”, telling corny jokes, scratch tickets, good food, and of course being surrounded by family and friends. He spent many years traveling to Rusnik Campground in Salisbury, where he made many long-time friends. He also treasured the friends that became family at his Shrewsbury apartment complex.
