George A. Worthington, 95, of Natick formerly Worcester passed away Thursday, November 25, 2021, after a period of declining health.
George was born in Dallas, Texas the son of George A. and Willie Claire (Read) Worthington. Grew up and raised in Texas, George served his country proudly during World War II in the U.S. Navy. Discharged from the service he married Jerrene White New Years Day in 1954 and spent the next 64 years devoted to one another until Jerrene passed away on August 24, 2018. Over their 64 years of marriage, George worked as a manufacturer’s representative for Continental Grain Company, selling Edible Oils, living in New Jersey, Connecticut, and Chicago among others before retiring.
George is survived by two children, attorney Mark W. Worthington and his wife Annette Hines of Natick, Phyllis G. Sparks, and her husband Jay of Richardson Texas; two grandchildren, Nikki Worthington, and Caroline Hines; a great granddaughter, Brandy; Nieces, nephews, and extended family members. In addition to his parents, and wife Jerrene, a grandson Nicholas passed away in 2007.
George was a faithful, devoted member, deacon and elder of the First Presbyterian Church in Worcester. An accomplished pilot, George found peace in the skies as a licensed commercial pilot. He also enjoyed skiing and tennis.
A period of calling hours will be held Saturday, December 4th from 9 am to 10 am in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St. A short service will follow at 10 am. He will be buried with military honors in Hope Cemetery.
