Georgette (Abdulky) Khoury, 89, of Worcester, passed away peacefully on February 15, 2025, at Holy Trinity Nursing Home surrounded by loving family.
She was born November 26, 1935, in Al-Hasakah, Syria to the late, Ghanema and Abdulahad Abdulky. She had six sisters and three brothers, Wardane, Mary, Angel, Janet, Evelyn, Antoine, Josephine, Elias, and David. Georgette was one of the first of her siblings to leave her hometown and pursue a degree in higher education, starting a lifelong career as a nurse and midwife. She married the love of her life, Shawky Khoury, in 1963, and had two daughters, Nobough and Abeir.
During her career, Georgette was active in women’s rights organizations and family planning clinics, providing free vaccinations to women and children. She loved and respected her work as a midwife and cared deeply for her patients. She delivered numerous babies and even pierced the ears of the baby girls she delivered.
In February 1979, Georgette and her daughters moved to the U.S. to be reunited with her husband, who was pursuing his doctorate degree. Starting over in a new country, Georgette and her family found a community in Worcester, Massachusetts. Her husband, Shawky, suddenly passed away in 1989, leaving her to become the head of the house and the matriarch of her growing family. Several of her family members joined Georgette in the U.S., and she cared for them as they transitioned to American Life. She has several nieces and nephews who look to her as a second mother. Georgette helped raise her six grandchildren, who she loved deeply and was an integral part of their upbringing.
Georgette was an active member of St. Mary’s Syriac Orthodox Church and enjoyed attending Mass every Sunday. She always made sure to look her best, wearing bedazzled dress suits and high heels, and became well known for her classy and poised demeanor. She enjoyed traveling, loved to shop, a trait she passed down to her kids and grandkids, and never missed an episode of her favorite soap operas. Georgette loved hosting family and friends and feeding those who came to visit. She valued time spent with her family and friends and always made the effort to reach out to those she cared about.
Georgette leaves behind her loving daughters, Nobough and her spouse Salah Asfoura, and Abeir and her spouse Robere Thomas; her adored six grandchildren, Tony, Kris, Bianca, Aleesa, Chantal, and Alex, and several other nieces, nephews, friends, and extended family members here and abroad. She will be deeply missed by her family and her community.
