Gertrude M. “Gert” (Goodrow) Mulhern, 83 of Worcester passed away Wednesday September 19, 2018 peacefully at home with the ones she loved by her side.
Gertrude was born in Worcester on August 23, 1935 the daughter of Arthur G. Goodrow, Jr. and Gertrude E. (Trum) Goodrow. Raised in Worcester, by relatives Joseph and Malvina (Goodreau) Lambert. Gert graduated from St. Peter’s High School. On August 4th 1956, She married the “Love of Her Life” Thomas P. Mulhern, Jr. Together they settled in the Burncoat St area of Worcester, where they raised their children in a home of love, dedication and devotion. Gert loved children and when her children were in school, she worked as a family child care provider in her home through Worcester Comprehensive Child Care, before retiring.
Gert is survived by her dear Thom; her four children, Michael Mulhern and his life partner, Patti Pignataro, of Worcester, Kevin Mulhern and his wife Jackie of Merrimack, NH, Susan D’Alfonso and her husband Bob of Whitinsville and Lisa Mulhern of Worcester; seven grandchildren she adored, Joe, Jennifer, James, Lance, Kimberly, Angela and Jessica; 12 great grandchildren; her dear cat “Socks”, Gert’s constant companion and naptime buddy; Many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends including Cheryl Lumb with whom she was especially close to. Her only sister, Joan Whitford pre-deceased her.
Gert was a member of Our Lady of Rosary church. Full of life, Gert always had time for a cup of coffee or a lengthy phone call with family or friends. She especially loved her family outings with her children, grandchildren, or great grandchildren. As part of her devotion to her catholic faith, for many years and when able, Gert attended the adoration chapel at St George’s parish in the wee hours of the morning to pray and bring blessings to her family and the catholic diocese of Worcester.
Friends and relatives are invited to a period of calling hours, Saturday, September 22nd from 9:00 am to 10:30 am in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St followed by a procession to her church, Our Lady of the Rosary Church, 35 Fales Street where her Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am. Burial will be held Monday, September 24th in Massachusetts Veterans Cemetery in Winchendon. Memorial remembrances in her name can be made to Our Lady of Rosary Church, 35 Fales St.
The Mulhern family would like to thank the kind, caring people from Visiting Angel’s and the Central Mass Hospice staff, for the tender care they provided over the last few weeks.
