Gregg A. Collins, Sr., 56, of Worcester, passed away on Friday, August 10, 2018 at UMass Hospital in Worcester, surrounded by loving family. His wife of thirty-seven years, Mildred C. (Faugno) Collins, predeceased him last year.
Gregg is survived by a son, Gregg A. Collins, Jr.; two daughters, Rebecca Collins-Ansah and her husband Kwabena, and Meagan C. Collins; his daughter in law, Caitlin Tivnan, all of Worcester. Three grandchildren, Tatalia Hamilton, Teresa Collins, and Gianna Ansah; nieces and nephews. Gregg was predeceased by three grandchildren. He was born in Worcester, the only child of the late, Ralph and Evelyn (DeJoinville) Collins; he graduated from Worcester Boys Trade, and has lived here all his life.
Gregg retired in 2014 from the Worcester Public School System, where he had worked as a custodian for over sixteen years. He was a member of Saint Stephen’s Church. He enthusiastically supported the Red Sox and Patriots; he loved fishing and hunting. Greggs’ greatest joy was his family, and he was so happy that he could be involved in his grandchildren’s upbringing and activities. He will be remembered as a great father and grandfather.
The family would like thank the nurses and doctors from the 3rd floor Cardiac I.C.U. at UMass. Their compassion and care is greatly appreciated.
Calling Hours for Gregg will be on Thursday, August 16 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation Street, Worcester. His Funeral will be on Friday, August 17, from the funeral home with a Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. in Saint Stephen’s Church, 357 Grafton Street, Worcester. Interment will follow in Hope Cemetery, Worcester.
