Lucille Jones, born Hazel Lucille Hampton on December 7, 1925, in Worcester, MA, peacefully passed away on August 31, 2023, at the age of 97 in Fresno, CA. She was the cherished daughter of Everett B Hampton and Hazel Mary (Morris) Hampton.
Lucille, known affectionately by her preferred name, was a woman of deep faith and a member of John Street Baptist Church. Her devotion to her religion was a guiding force in her life.
Lucille was a loving wife to her late husband, Willie B Jones, and a devoted mother to her daughters Pamela R Jones, Janice Jones-Storms (Jeffrey W), Patricia A Jones, and Wanda B Gore, all of California. She also leaves three sisters, Carolyn H Bailey, and Hope Kinsey, both of Florida; Faith Chase, of Cambridge, Massachusetts, her grandsons Evan T Jones, of Worcester; Jason R Jones and Yusuf R Luqman, of California; and a granddaughter, Aáisha Luqman, of Lancaster, Texas. She leaves 8 great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Lucille adored her family, and she will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Lucille’s educational journey began at Elizabeth Street School, and she later graduated from Commerce High School. She continued her pursuit of knowledge by obtaining various certifications for work. Lucille dedicated many years of her life to the Bank of America (formerly Guaranty Bank & Trust), where she served with diligence and commitment until her retirement in 1990.
Beyond her professional accomplishments and religious involvement, Lucille possessed a creative spirit. She found solace and fulfillment in the art of knitting and crocheting. With her skilled hands, she crafted beautiful and intricate pieces, leaving behind a legacy of her talent and passion.
Lucille was preceded in death by her loving husband, Willie B Jones, a beloved son, Walter E Jones, her parents, Everett B Hampton and Hazel Mary (Morris) Hampton, her grandson Marc W Jones, and a great-grandson. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Priscilla Mosley, her brothers, Everett Sabree and Walter Hampton, and her son-in-law William Gore. Their memory will forever be cherished.
Funeral services are planned for Thursday, September 14, 2023, at MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation Street, Worcester, MA. Visitation will start at 11:00 am, followed by a service at 12. Burial will follow at Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton.
In lieu of flowers, a donation made to a charity of your choice is preferred.
As we bid farewell to Lucille, we remember her warm smile, kind heart, and gentle spirit. Her legacy of love, dedication, and creativity will continue to inspire all those who were fortunate enough to know her. May she rest in eternal peace, and may her memory be a blessing to us all.
