Isabelle (Khoshabjian) Soghomonian

Shrewsbury, MA

Isabelle (Khoshabjian) Soghomonian, 93, of Shrewsbury, formerly of West Boylston, passed away peacefully Sunday, September 29th 2024, at UMass Memorial-Lake campus after a short illness. Isabelle is welcomed into heaven into the arms of her husband Malig and her son, Paul among other family members. 

Isabelle was born in Chelsea, MA, the daughter of Mugerdich and Lucia (Perjian) Khoshabjian. Raised in Roxbury, Isabelle, met, The “Love of her life” Malig Soghomonian at an Armenian dance. They courted, married and began their life together in Worcester, moving to West Boylston to raise their family with faith, and love. In October of 1989, Malig left Isabelle’s side after 37 years of marriage. She continued to live in the family home as matriarch of the family until moving to Shrewsbury, 17 years ago. She cherished her life in Shrewsbury living on Lake Quinsigamond relaxing on her deck with Lucy, watching the beautiful sunsets and the boaters enjoying the Lake. 

Isabelle worked her entire life; She began as a telephone operator for The New England Telephone Company, then working as a waitress for the Peacock Club in Auburn, The former Sheraton Lincoln, Leo’s restaurant, and Eddy’s Pub before retiring. 

Isabelle is survived by her two daughters, Lucille “Lucy” Soghomonian-Pupo and her husband Michael of Shrewsbury, Diane Payne and her husband Bruce of Spencer, MA; two grandchildren, Rene Messier and his wife Jessica of Holden, MA, Michael Messier and his wife Toni of North Smithfield, RI ; two great grandchildren, Sienna and Ari; A sister-in-law, Joy Khoshabjian: nieces, nephews, and extended family members. In addition to her parents, husband and son, a brother, Charles Khoshabjian and sister, Catherine Mekjian also predeceased her. 

Isabelle was a member of the Armenian Church of Our Savior. A golfer, Isabelle was a member of the Heritage Country Club Women’s Golf league, also the Worcester Historical Association, The Tower Hill Botanical and Shrewsbury Garden Clubs an Excellent Armenian cook, she loved to entertain family for dinners, special occasions or just having them around her. Isabelle loved to golf, trips to the casinos, shopping with Lucy, going out to eat and her annual two-week summer vacation at Hampton Beach NH. She especially loved living on lake Quinsigamond and having Lucy and Milke close to her and enjoying life together. 

Isabelle’s family would like to thank the staff at Umass Memorial Hospital- Lake campus, 7 West, notably, Nick “Terri”, Joanie, Kathleen, Meg, Lauren and Donald/“Tommy” for the care, comfort, and compassion they gave to Isabelle. They treated her like their grandmother.

A period of calling hours will be held Saturday, October 5th from 9:30 am to 11:00 am followed by her funeral service at 11, in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St. Burial will follow in Mt Vernon Cemetery, West Boylston. In lieu of flowers memorial remembrances in her name can be made to the Armenian Church of Our Savior, 87 Salisbury, Street Worcester 01609.
