Jacinto Diaz, 81, of Worcester, passed away on Sunday, September 23, 2018, at The Odd Fellows Home in Worcester. He was predeceased by his devoted wife of fifty-seven years, Christina Diaz.
He is survived by his seven children, Jacinto Diaz, Jr., and Josue Diaz, both of Florida, Minerva Aulet, Esther Diaz, Noemi Gonzalez, and Eliezer Diaz of Worcester, and Raquel Watkins of Holden. He leaves three brothers in Puerto Rico, Federico Diaz, Juan G. Diaz, and Concepcion Diaz and two sisters, Carmen Diaz in Puerto Rico and Sylvia Rivera of Worcester; nineteen grandchildren; fifteen great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a son, Eliseo Diaz, two grandsons, Jose Elias Diaz and Larry L. Owens, II; and several brothers and sisters. Jacinto was born in Arroyo, Puerto Rico, son of the late Leoncio and Sebastiana (Valentin) Diaz, and lived there for many years, before moving to Worcester in 1974.
Jacinto worked for many years as a welder throughout the city and was an integral part of the steel workers team as the “Worcester Centrum” was being constructed. He enjoyed dancing, singing, and spending time with friends and family. His greatest joy was his family, children and grandchildren.
Calling Hours for Jacinto will be held on Monday, October 1, from 9 a.m. until prayers begin for his Funeral Service at 11 a.m. in MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation Street, Worcester. Interment beside his loving wife, will follow in Hope Cemetery, Worcester.
