Jack G. DeCillis 81 of Holden a retired Army Master Sergeant died Thursday January 17 in the comfort of his home with his wife Maria at his side. Born in Trani Italy, Jack was the son of Giovanni and Elizabeth (DiPilato) DeCillis.
As a cartographer, Jack spent his career producing maps and charts for 42 years retiring in 2004 from the Federal Aviation Administration and served his country in the US Air Force and the US Army Reserve retiring from the Army in 1977.
Jack leaves his beloved wife of 51 years Maria (Cornacchioli), one daughter Marisa DeCillis, wife of David Carr, one sister Maria Adamczyk wife of Edward Adamczyk and many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephew. Jack grew up in Italy during WWII and as a child experienced combat first hand as he and his parents were fleeing from it.
Jack loved going to church. Due to declining health, weekly masses transitioned to watching Mass daily on TV.
The family would like to thank the staff at Jewish Homecare Hospice especially Jennifer, Jacks nurse, Melissa, Bernice and Heather for the outstanding care and compassion given to Jack during his time of need.
Funeral services with military honors will be held on Saturday January 19, 2019 from the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME AND CHAPEL 370 Plantation St. Worcester. Calling hours will be from 9-10am followed by a funeral Mass at 10:30 at St. George Church 38 Brattle St. Worcester Internment with military honors will be at the Notre Dame Mausoleum in Worcester.
