James Z. Coutsonikas Jr., 69, peacefully passed on Sunday, April 14, 2024, at Timberlyn Heights Nursing & Rehabilitation. He was born and raised in Worcester, MA, then moved to the outskirts of Albany, NY.
His family was important to him and he was always the happiest when he was with family. He loved the holidays and had a heart of gold, always willing to help in anyway.
James lost his hearing to Cogan’s Syndrome at the young age of twenty-two. After becoming deaf he joined the Deaf Club of Worcester where he was an avid horseshoe player. He could not hear the music, but certainly felt the rhythm and danced… and what a dancer he was. Although he was not dealt the best hand in this game of life, he always remained positive and lived life on his own terms.
James is survived by his son Timothy, his brother Michael, and sisters Cheryl O’Meara and Cindy Coutsonikas, his sisters-in-law Olive Coutsonikas and Robin Coutsonikas, and brother-in-law Richard Lacey. He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and extended family.
He is predeceased by his parents, Eva and James Coutsonikas Sr., his brother Daniel, John and Thomas, his sister Donna Lacey and his sister-in-law Sharon O’Meara.
He will be laid to rest with his parents at 11 am on Monday, April 22, at 11 a.m. in Hope Cemetery. There will be a celebration of life at a later date.
Mercadante Funeral Home & Chapel is assisting his family.
