Jimmy was born in Worcester, the eldest of 11 children of Italian immigrants Frank and Michelina (Protano) Docimo. He grew up and was a lifelong resident of Grafton Hill. He went to work for his father Frank Docimo at a young age and helped provide for his large family by making deliveries of ice, oil and other much needed household items during the great depression. Jimmy was a master operating engineer with the Local 4 IUOE for over 50 years. Jimmy was one of the most sought-after operating engineers in New England, responsible for the site work and construction of many of the states well known infrastructure over the last half century, for many companies, including, Marois Brothers, Bayer-Mingola, Amorello Construction, and the Worcester Sand & Gravel Companies.

Jimmy and Barbara enjoyed their winter residence in Brevard County, Florida for many years and hosted much of their family and friends there. Later in retirement he worked part-time for the Worcester EcoTarium as the train conductor for several years, taking such pride in his work and recognized for bringing joy to many children and their families on his famous rides. Jimmy was a lifelong member of St. Stephen’s Church and served as an officer in the Pope John XXIII Council 5481 Knights of Columbus. But in life he most enjoyed being at home with his family and loved ones. He could always be found working with his little helpers around the yard, on the lawn mower or pickup truck while teaching the values of hard work. Sunday dinner at Papa’s house was a staple in the Docimo family that brought generations of his family to his weekly table where, he cherished spending time in the company of his large family and discussing their accomplishments and interests, always imparting his life lessons, unique one-liners and wisdom.
