James J. Leahey

James J. Leahey, 90 of Worcester, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 21, 2024 at St. Vincent’s Hospital.

James was born in Worcester, a son of the late William H. and Eva I. (St Thomas) Leahey. He served his country during the Korean War in the United States Air Force from 1951-1954. Upon his Honorable Discharge from the Air Force, he affiliated with the MA Air National Guard where he served until his retirement in 1989 at the rank of CMSGT.

Jim was an avid gardener, enjoyed his daily walks and cross country skiing, and a voracious reader. Jim volunteered his time and mentored Boy Scout Troop 59 for many years. Jim enjoyed history and spent many years as a member of the Civil War Roundtable.

James is survived by his wife of 67 years, Annette M. (L’Heureux) Leahey; their five children, Mark J. Leahey of Worcester, David J. Leahey of Colorado, Daniel J. Leahey of New Hampshire, Dianne M; Spagnolia and her husband Doug of Florida and John J. Leahey and his wife Tracy of Rutland; ten grandchildren, one great grandchild and many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by two brothers, William and Paul Leahey; four sisters, Anita Kelly, Evelyn Deignan, Marie Sullivan and Margaret Coughlin.

Services will be held privately. MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St., Worcester is assisting the family with arrangements. Memorial contributions in his name can be made to a charity of one’s choice.
