Jane (Ryan) Grant

Jane E. (Ryan) Grant, 88 a longtime resident of the Lakeview neighborhood  of Worcester, passed away surrounded by loved ones Wednesday, January 4, 2023, after a brief illness.

Jane was born in Providence, Rhode Island, the daughter of Russell E. Ryan, Sr., and Elizabeth (Mulvaney) Ryan.  Jane married the love of her life, James P Grant in 1965, and settled in a home on the south end of Lake Quinsigamond where they raised their two sons with love, faith and family until James left her side on August 7, 1995.   Jane continued to live in her home until her passing.

Jane was a stay-at-home mom, raising her sons, until she accepted a position with the State Mutual Life Insurance company where she worked many years until retiring.  

Jane is survived by her two sons, Richard E.  and John P. Grant both of Worcester; the apple of her eye and cherished granddaughter, Ava; a sister-in-law, Mary Grant; cousin, Jimmy Salvidio; Many extended family members and lifelong friends including Sandy Brothers;  in addition to her parents and husband James, two brothers, Paul and Russell E. Ryan, Jr. predeceased her. 

Jane was a woman with a deep catholic faith, she was a member and regular attendee, at St John’s church, as often as she was able.  Jane cherished her role as matriarch of her family and guided, counselled and cared for her two sons, husband, and granddaughter throughout her life.   She loved her family and never missed a game or activity her sons were involved in; be it Hockey or softball.   She found so much joy with Ava, Richard, and John.   Jane loved living on the Lake and its peacefulness in the morning and evening, just sitting on her deck watching nature.  He friends were also very important to her and had many lifelong friends “The Club” who would meet as often as they could. 

A period of calling hours, will be held Tuesday, January 10^th from 4 pm to 7 pm in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St. Her funeral will be held Wednesday, January 11^th from the funeral home with a procession to St John Church, 44 temple St Worcester where her celebration of Christian Burial Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 am.  Burial next to James will follow in St John Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers memorial remembrances in her name can be made to the American Heart Association, 300 5^th Ave, suite 6, Waltham, MA .
