Jean P. (Walsh) Vancelette, 85 of Worcester, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 12, 2022, at Lutheran Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Center with her husband by her side.
Jean was born in Worcester, a daughter of the late Thomas J and Rosalynd (Gentile) Walsh. She graduated from St. Stephens High School in the mid-1950s. Shortly after high school, Jean entered the Sisters of Providence in Holyoke, Massachusetts. As a religious, Jean completely devoted her life to God. This is where Jean's unwavering religious beliefs were cemented, and Jean remained a devout Catholic throughout her life. Eventually, Jean left religious life and returned home to her family. In 1966, Jean married George Vancelette, her husband of 55 years. Jean was a devoted wife and loving mother.
Jean was employed as a facilities manager for many years for numerous nursing facilities in the area, retiring from Briarwood.
Jean is survived by her husband of 55 years, George L. Vancelette; a son, Thomas M. Vancelette and his wife Zandra and a daughter, Ellen Cherry and her husband Patrick all of Worcester; her sister Catherine “Kay” Cosmo of Shrewsbury; six grandchildren, Brittany, Brennan and Kailey Cherry, Isabella and Anthony Vancelette and Santiago Mora; many niecesandnephews.Sheispredeceasedbyherbrother,ThomasWalsh.
Services for Jean will be held on Thursday, February 17, 2022 from the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St., Worcester with a Mass at 11:15 am in St. Anne’s Church, 130 Boston Turnpike, Shrewsbury. Burial will follow in St. John’s Cemetery, Worcester. A period of calling hours will be held on Thursday, February 17th from 9-10:30 in the funeral home prior to departure for her funeral Mass. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to: St. John’s Food for the Poor, 44 Temple St., Worcester, MA 01604.
