Jennie M. (Acquaro) Jones, 92 of Worcester passed away peacefully in her sleep Friday, March 29, 2019.
Born, raised and educated in Worcester, Jennie was one of eight children of Italian immigrants, Anthony and Maria-Grazie (Albanese) Acquaro. Jennie married George V. Jones in 1960, and together settled in the Tatnuck Square neighborhood of Worcester to raise their family.
Jennie is survived by four children; Ernest Francis and his wife Roberta of Rome, Italy, Margaret and her husband Moussa of Worcester, George and his former wife Susan of Worcester, Elizabeth and her husband Brian of Washington DC; a sister, Teresa DePari of Worcester; four grandchildren, Kayla, Christian, Isabel and Malcolm; many nieces, nephews, and extended family members. In addition to her parents and husband George, her six siblings: Frank and Ralph Acquaro, Philomena Putes, Carmella Casso, Helen Acquaro and Gloria Rovezzi are all predeceased.
Jenny was a forward thinker, dating back to the early 1970s she was against discrimination on the basis of race and ethnicity—a belief which she instilled in the minds of her children. She was very proud of her Italian heritage, especially from a culinary perspective. In the late 1990s she travelled to Rome, Italy to live with her son Ernest for six months. It is rumored they tried a different restaurant every evening which, in turn contributed to her extensive knowledge of Italian food. Also, Jenny was a lover for the arts, frequently organizing piano recitals during the 1970s at her home in Tatnuck for the neighborhood. All said, the foregoing was a rarity indeed in Worcester. Additionally, she possessed an amazing sense of humor, which emerged in the form of funny remarks or “battuta divertente” often combining English and Italian words such as “cazzo di freeze”.
Jenny is typically associated as being a devout catholic and a long-term member of Christ the King Church. Although, she emphatically maintained all religions are valid, in particular she considered Tenzin Gyatso (i.e. the 14th Dalai Lama) especially spiritual. Withal, she possessed a significant degree of cognizance of the incontrovertible scientific dogma but chose, nonetheless, to align herself with the doctrine of predestination. In the past she was a frequent visitor of St. Joseph’s Abbey in Spencer where she acquired numerous books on theology which, in turn, contributed to enhancing her faith. She will be professedly missed and loved infinitely by her family.
Friends, and relatives are invited to calling hours Monday, April 1st from 4 pm to 7 pm in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation street.
